Orval N. “Pete” Zickefoose
Orval N. “Pete” Zickefoose, age 89, of Buckhannon, WV died Saturday, November 27, 2010 at his home.  He was born September 13, 1921 in Queens, WV a son of the late Parley and Carrie Bailey Zickefoose.  On December 17, 1947 he married Mary E. Cutright who preceded him in death on July 31, 2006.  He is survived by one daughter Barbara D. Zickefoose and David Bunner, one son Rev. Jeff Zickefoose and wife Lynelle all of Buckhannon; four granddaughters, Leslie, Stephanie, Emily, and April; two great grandsons, Nathan and Kyler, three great granddaughters, Cassie, Charity and Baleigh; two sisters, Norma Jean Gary and husband Tim, Myrtle Marie Zickefoose and husband Damon  all of Dayton, OH and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one son Darrell “Tom” Zickefoose; four brothers, Chester, Doyle, Bailey and Ronald Zickefoose; eight sisters Marjorie Snyder, Addie Hinkle, Mildred Wentz, Stella Roth, Leatha Reed, Thelma Reed, Elva Sloane and Ruth Zickefoose.  Mr. Zickefoose was a long-standing member of the Upshur Co. Sportsman’s Club, Kesling Mill Lions Club, Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post # 7 American Legion and was a Methodist by faith.  After retiring from teaching, he was employed part-time at Moore’s Business Forms as a Security Guard.  He attended Harmony Grade School, graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School in May 1940 and WVWC in August 1951.  He served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1946 in China, Burma and India.  After graduating college he taught school at Zickefoose School, Leonard Run, Cutright Chapel, Carpenter, Tenmile and Washington District for 30 years.  Twelve of those 30 years, he also drove school bus.  During his teaching years he became known to his students as “Uncle Pete” and still is  today.  Friends will be received Monday, November 29, 2010 from 5-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home.  A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with Jim Wentz and Rev. Tim Lewis officiating.  Burial will follow at the Lanham Cemetery in Queens.  Buckhannon VFW Post #3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post #7 American Legion, DAV Chapters #5 & #36 will conduct military honors at the graveside.  Online condolences may be made to the family at www.polingstclair.com.  Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
